Impromptu

Friday, August 17th, 2007

We watched Impromptu last week. I have to say I was not overly impressed, though I may have had higher expectations after Quilt. Honestly, Hugh Grant was the saving grace of the film, I’ve never seen him that I didn’t think he did a fine job. Bernadette Peters, whom I expected to enjoy was sorta….enh, , and the gal who played George Sands was as interesting as cabinet hardware. Overall, I’m really glad that I don’t have to pay Blockbuster by the rental, because this one would not have been worth the money.

Oh, here you are

Friday, August 17th, 2007

It’s been almost a week since I posted. No one sent out a posse, but I am sure you missed me anyway. I’ve been taking care of some other things: doing a bit of cleaning, watching some tube, making a few plans, reading a few pages, swimming in the pool wearing nothing but an animal inflatable. Oops, I lied. I don’t have a pool.

Anyway, I’m back, and I appreciate your patience!

Hearts in Atlantis

Saturday, August 11th, 2007

I finished yesterday. I got near enough to the end that I just pushed aside most of what I needed to do so I could veg out on the couch and read. I have to say that there is not as much weirdness in this book as I expected. There are just a couple of paranormal scenes in the book (in one of them a whole collection of stuff comes falling from the sky, including, I’m sure, a complete cookware set). The rest of the book is just about people, as the best of the King books tend to be.

The books—oops that was a Freudian slip, but I will leave it, because it illustrates my point—work together to tell a complete story, but each section of the book could also stand alone. Reading this book is a fine way to spend a few summer afternoons, and has done a masterful job of characterization, as usual. You’ll get an amazing glimpse into teh mind sets that brought about the decade of radical change we cal the 60s.

The Andy Griffith Show

Saturday, August 11th, 2007

I have to admit that I love classic television. We get an hour of Andy Griffith here every night, and I just start grinning when I hear the theme song. I even have a few episodes on DVD. Andy’s from around here, you know. He grew up in Mount Airy, North Carolina. It’s fun to watch the show and think back on a time when the Raleigh personal injury lawyer category took up less than a full page in the phone book.
