Insomnia (for the last time), Hearts in Atlantis

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

I did finish Insomnia a few days ago. It’s a good book, but not an earth shattering book. As is typical of Stephen King, there are a couple of lessons worth taking with you when you go. That’s one of the things I most enjoy about him; there’s always more to the story than just the story.

I’ve also started Hearts in Atlantis, but I am not far enough in yet to have much of a clue as to what the book is about. I guess that’s one of the other things I like about King. His books keep me guessing almost to the very end.

Finally, I must mention office desks. It’s not a savvy or cool mention, nor is it very pretty, but it’s done now, and we can move on. What about I promise not to make anymore posts on MTV for at least a month, and you forgive me?

Yo Momma

Friday, July 27th, 2007

Am I the last person in America to find out about with Wilmer Valderrama’s show on MTV, “Yo Momma” ? Recently MTV started an online part to the show –

it’s basically an enormous online bank of yo momma jokes and slams. Check it out at yomomma.tv and you can start battling other users around the world, or come check out their yomomma myspace page to meet other people that are just as interested in Yo Momma as you are.

Enjoy, but just don’t tell my mama that I’m giggling.

Anybody home?

I haven’t been posting much over here, have I? I told you several times that I don’t care much for TV, and lately I’ve been doing more running around here and there in the evenings anyway, so my already small tv time has taken a real hit. I have been reading though, and Stephen King is not exactly known for giving his books diet pills. They are fat and juicy, just the way I like them! I think I am finally approaching the halfway point of Insomnia. A hundred pages or so ago, I realized that I read this book quite a while back, not too long after it was published. I can’t remember how it ended though, so I am reading it again. It’s slow going because by the time I can actually get my nose in a book, I’m sleepy. Except last night, after I closed Insomnia, I had to deal with a little of my own. That’s one vicious cycle I am hoping doesn’t start up again.

Insomnia

So, I told you my books had shipped, but I did not mention that they had arrived. Oops, I’m a slacker. I have been reading instead of talking about reading, LOL! I have to say, as a person who suffers from insomnia, I have both learned from and appreciated this book, and I am only 100ish pages in. I’ve learned that I am what is called a “slow-sleeper”, and i think King must be as well, because he perfectly describes what the world is like to one who isn’t sleeping, from the greyness of it to the inability to respond appropriately to it.

I’m enjoying the book, and I’ll be glad to get my work done today, so I can read more of it. I do have one question, though: Do you think it might be just a bit whacked that I am reading Insomnia in bed at night? Yeah, me too.

This post brought to you by the folks at ILoveInns.com, where you can find a Bed & Breakfast and a good night’s sleep is practically guaranteed.

Mac Poker

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

If you are a fan of online poker, and you have a Mac, this is a site that you must check out. Mac Poker has gathered the resources you need to find the games you want: from current tournaments to casinos with sign on bonuses, they know about it, and you can too. You can use your time for playing instead of researching, because they have done that for you.

They have stuff for Mac-less poker players, too. Here’s an overview of poker rules. And these poker strategy tips are sure to help a novice (like me) understand the nuances of the game, no matter what kind of system you play on (yeah, even the plastic coated paper system which is my personal favorite.) This site fills a real niche in the online gaming community. It’s obvious that a lot of effort has gone into making a site that adds value to the online poker community.
