Changing it up Part two

Saturday, June 16th, 2007

Now I’ve been trying to fit the posts in while attempting to maintain the focus of the blog, but I think I’ve not been doing such a good job of that. In fact, IMHO, sometimes doing that can turn blogs into sound machines, rather than places you visit for fresh and delicious content. And so I am thinking it might be better to just do that kind of posting on Saturdays, and then be done with, and we can talk about entertainment on the other days of the week.

Changing it up Part one

You all know from the disclosure policy that I am compensated for some of the posts on this blog. It’s no secret either that I have a largish family and there are bills to pay. Shoot, I even have business cards that indicate I am a professional blogger. One of the downsides to being a professional blogger is that sometimes i have to talk about stuff that is just not germane to this blog.

Parental Concerns

Thinking back on Anna Nicole Smith and Danielyn, I’m left wondering about that baby. I’m sure she was covered well in the will, but I imagine that the bulk of Anna Nicole’s money is still in dispute. I haven’t heard anything about her lawsuit coming to a final conclusion. Of course, I know nothig about Larry Birkhead’s finances, either. I’m hopeful that Anna Nicole had a hefty life insurance policy, because if you want to raise a child in the lap of luxury, it costs a lot of money. Come to think of it, child insurance is probably a pretty good idea, too.

Traveling Wilburys

When I was over at my folks’ the other night, a commercial came on, and I recognized Roy Orbison and then Tom Petty. Now, I had heard the band name Traveling Wilburys before, but I just assumed it was a folksy type band that I would not be interested in learning more about. Umm, d’uh. I totally want their new cd set. Well, their newly relaesed cd set, because the music is not new. While Traveling Wilburys may not be a name I recognize(d), I love me some Roy Orbison and Tom Petty.

Dream On

You know, I heard long ago, that soap operas cause more dis-satisfaction with ordinary life than almost any other medium. Watching perfectly groomed people live their well-planned lives, with their servants, their mid-afternoon sex, and their parties three nights a week is just so far removed from the lives most of us lead, that it’s hard not to be jealous, even though we know it’s not real. Even when they have problems, they look great, yk? Is there really a person outside of the afternoon soaps who gets kidnapped without breaking a nail?

For the record, I don’t do soaps, but I’m running into the kid version of the same thing. Teenie shows depict lives that my kids, and most kids I daresay, will never have. They all have plenty of money, glamorous kids bedding, and a shiny new car in the driveway for their 16th birthday. Umm no. Just no. How do you convince your kids that life just doesn’t work that way?
