Movie Review: Steel Magnolias

Sunday, April 29th, 2007

We watched this weekend. I had watched it several years ago, but had forgotten so much of it that I sat down expecting a comedy. The movie is funny, but it is also rather serious. I guess it’s a lot like the it’s about that way. I think it’s pretty safe for about 10 and up. There is a bit of risque humor in it, but it;s the kind of stuff that will go right over the head of those who don’t know enough to get it, and won’t lead to a lot of questions either. I’ll leave you with this line: “I’d rather have 3 minutes of wonderful than a whole lifetime of nothing special.” You’ll have to watch the movie to fugure out what that means.

I almost cried

I admit freely that I have not tuned in to American Idol since my ear bled, but I really wish I had seen the show last night. This clip almost moved me to tears! This is one of my favorite Elvis songs ever, and, well, just click it.

Hattip to Deb at Two Dog Zoo.

Law & Order in trouble?

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

I read today that NBC is considering not picking up two of the L&O series for the fall season. Both the original and Criminal Intent are in the undecided column at this point. I’ve not gotten into Criminal Intent so much, though it’s enjoyable, but SVU is one of my favorites, and I’ve watched L&O since it premiered!! Even as I type SVU is on the tube.

I sure do hope they get their collective and respective poop together, because these are good shows!

New Walk of Famer

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

I was watching Conan O’Brien last Friday night, and Donald Trump was the guest. I was flabbergasted when The Donald said he was getting a star on the Walk of Fame. Huh? I thought Donald Trump was a businessman. I thought those stars were reserved for actors/actresses who had contributed something of lasting value to pop culture. Umm, I don’t think a few seasons of un-reality tv qualify.

Donald in the same class as Marilyn? Never. And that would be Monroe, not Manson.

David, what have they done to you?

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

I have been a fan of David Caruso since he was on NYPD Blue. Yeah, I watched that show from the first episode until it went off the air. It was good, but never the same after he left. I was so excited about CSI Miami when I found out he was going to be in it, and I watched that show from the first episode, too. The last couple of seasons have been hugely disappointing to me. I don’t know if it’s the writers, the director or David’s own ego, but this *strategic pause* before every. single. line??? It’s got to stop. You’re killing me here.
