Musicals 101

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

I’m cleaning out my drafts folder on Six Neat Things, because it’s really getting on my nerves. It’s getting to the point that I can’t find what I’m looking for. I lose track of enough physical stuff, without losing my cyber stuff, too, ykwim? So, I’m publishing the entertainment stuff here, right where it belongs, and if ever a site needed to be spotlighted under Songs We Sing, it’sMusicals 101.

While today’s music has plenty of folks who have memorized it’s flashy lyrics, for sheer numbers, songs from musicals are the best known. The everlasting appeal of singing an actual story wins hands down. Who can forget A Chorus Line or Oklahoma? At this site, you can find out more about these and other musicals. I didn’t see any midis, but there is a lot of historical info there.

Movie Trailers

Monday, June 18th, 2007

If you enjoy flicks, I know you will enjoy this site. Apple has trailers (d’uh) which you can watch on the site, or download to your iPod. There are also links for official move sites once you click on the movie graphic. As a bonus, there are links to new soundtracks on the right hand side, about half way down the page. The trailers are free, the music is not.

Traveling Wilburys

When I was over at my folks’ the other night, a commercial came on, and I recognized Roy Orbison and then Tom Petty. Now, I had heard the band name Traveling Wilburys before, but I just assumed it was a folksy type band that I would not be interested in learning more about. Umm, d’uh. I totally want their new cd set. Well, their newly relaesed cd set, because the music is not new. While Traveling Wilburys may not be a name I recognize(d), I love me some Roy Orbison and Tom Petty.

Spears Admits Problems

According to CNN, is apparently facing some of her issues. There’s a letter on her website explaining some of her recent behavior. It has got to be rough to live life under a microscope, every mistake magnified, under scrutiny from the world. I think about that each time I find myself getting the tiniest bit envious of some celebrity. Relative anonymity has it’s advantages. I could decide to drop off the face of the internet, and I’d only need to send out a few emails. But someone like Britney, she can’t even take her kids to an Orlando vacation home for a few days without being hounded.

I’ll note that the same thing is happening to Lindsay Lohan. CNN has published an incredibly unflattering picture of her to go along with a recent article on her that includes her stint in rehab, and subsequent apparent drug use. These are young girls. Oh, I know “everyone grows up so fast these days”. Yeah, but maybe they shouldn’t have to.
