Same Song

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

So, I asked my girl today: do they have more than three songs at that radio station? And she looked at me as if I were insane. Apparently, there are a bazillion songs played by that station. You could have fooled me, because they all sound the same– melody, beat, all the same, just different words. But, hey, whatever, turn it up some more. I’ll take some Botox for migraines, and jam right up.

It’s almost time

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

for CSI, It’s almost ti-i-ime for CSI. It’s Thursday, you see, and pretty soon the girls and I will start singing that. And when we sing it, we do it all up in our noses so we sound like the chipmunks. Yes, this is how we amuse ourselves. Got a problem with that?

LSD

Continuing our word association game, I was presented with the phrase drug treatment this morning. Can you guess what song I thought of? It was one of the earliest ones purportedly about drugs. Written and sung by the band “more popular than Jesus”. As if, but whatever. Got it now? Yep, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

Picture yourself in a boat on a river,
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly,
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes.

Sail Away

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Remember that awesome song by Styx? I used to know all the words, back in the day. It would come one, and I would just get all dramatical singing and gesticulating, and I’m sure people laughed for miles around. You know what, though? I still love tha song, and I still sing it along when it comes on the radio. Excpet now, I downplay the Diva part, ykwim? Cause nobody wants to see that, LOL!

Im sailing away, set an open course for the virgin sea
Ive got to be free, free to face the life thats ahead of me
On board, Im the captain, so climb aboard
Well search for tomorrow on every shore
And Ill try, oh lord, Ill try to carry on

I look to the sea, reflections in the waves spark my memory
Some happy, some sad
I think of childhood friends and the dreams we had
We live happily forever, so the story goes
But somehow we missed out on that pot of gold
But well try best that we can to carry on

A gathering of angels appeared above my head
They sang to me this song of hope, and this is what they said
They said come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me

I thought that they were angels, but to my surprise
They climbed aboard their starship and headed for the skies
Singing come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me

This blast from my musical past was inspired by cruises. What does that word make you think of?
