Life for Death

Friday, October 19th, 2007

I read today on CNN that Rex Ditto was sentenced to life in prison for murdering Alan Shalleck. Shalleck helped write the Curious George television series, and also worked with Margaret Rey on some of the books in the series. The terms of his plea agreement mean that he will not be eligible for parole.

Of course, it remains to be seen whether he will be in a real prison or one of those country clubs with cable tv and wireless routers. Let’s hope it’s the former, since in addition to murder, he’s guilty of stealing part of the magic of childhood. Yeah, we are big Curious George fans here.

Birth Control Follow up

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

I posted yesterday about middle schools offering birth control, and today I found a story about it on CNN. I;m sitting here shaking my head ….. 5 students out of 134 said they were having sex, and so now everyone in the school needs access to birth control. I bet if 5 out of 134 admitted to reading the Bible, the Portland School Committee would not decide that everyone in the school needed access to God. I bet they’d lock those Bibles up tighter than the Marie Antoinette’s jewelry …. which I also mentioned recently.

Blithering Idiots

I was privileged(??) to watch the news this morning while waiting for my son;s surgery to be over, and I happened to catch a bit of Robin & Company. I caught a snippet of a story on birth control in middle schools, and I was shocked to discover that 48% of the people who called to vote thought that was a good idea. Only 52% said no.

Hello? Middle school is grades 6-7-8. Kids that age are as emotionally equipped for sex as they are for job searches and mortgages! Duh!! I’m hoping that the vote was so messed up because most parental type units were at work, and only kids were home to call. Because really, folks who would vote that way need to get a clue. And they also need to get a job working with troubled not-even-teens who’ve been turned onto sex way too early.

No!

Just NO! I read with great shock that Al Bore has received a Nobel Peace Prize. For making a movie, and driving a golf cart at Cannes. Hmm, maybe shaving a couple bucks off his quadruple figure utility bill had some thing to do with it as well. Please pass the barf bag, I am going to be ill.

No, that’s not a typo. It was intentional.

He’s TEN!

While I was at CNN looking for the story on Britney and her boys, I ran across this stunner: Town torn over ‘confession’ by accused killer arsonist, 10. Apparently, murder charges are flowing there like water from kitchen faucets, because the boy is facing five counts, enough to potentially send him to prison for life. At ten years old.

Now, not to deny the grief, but if it were me, I’d be looking at the mother who escaped with minor/no injuries while her children burned to death. But that’s just me.
