The Bourne Ultimatum
Monday, August 6th, 2007For a very rare treat, I skipped the home theater seating (heh, read that “couch”) yesterday, and the older girls and I went to see The Bourne Ultimatum. I throughly enjoyed the movie, even though I had read the books. That wasn’t a typo, as I tend to dislike movies made from books. Matt Damon makes a believable Bourne, and the movie moves at breathtaking speed. There is NO drag in this flick. None. The edge of your seat feeling just doesn’t let up for the entire hour and 51 minutes. I’ve added the other two Bournes to my Blockbuster Queue.
I never know how far to go in a review, even IRL, as I don’t like to give much away. I will say this much: we have a new descriptive phrase ion our house. When someone does something totally crazy, we now say they are “off the roof”.
The Drive In Alternative
Wednesday, August 1st, 2007I was out getting my license renewed today, and I had to go by what used to be a drive in. I only went a few times in my entire life, but it was so fun, and it’s something I would love to do with the children, but you know what? Our drive in is now a flea market. Stinks, huh? A bunch of my friends were talking about drive ins the other day, and so I’ve been thinking about it, yk? I wonder if there is anyway to form some sort of grassroots movement to bring them back?
Of course, I suppose we could all get big screen TVs, a few silk trees and pretend to be outside, but it wouldn’t quite be the same, would it? Or we could just plug those huge TVs in outside. Hmm, come to think about it, that could be a cool idea for a summer party, doncha think? Most of them come with built in dvd players anyway. Hehehe, yeah, that could be cool.
Sundance Film Festival
Thursday, July 12th, 2007I’ve been interested in visiting Salt Lake City since I got stranded there overnight in a blizzard over a decade ago. I only saw a bit of snowy interstate and the inside of a swank hotel, but I know there is a lot more there. Given my interest in genealogy, I’m particularly interested in the Family History Library. And while the city is best known as home to the Mormon church, there are several famous churches that were built in the early 1900s, not long after the first Trans-Continental Railroad was completed. SLC is also home to the famous Mormon Tabernacle choir, and a host of the Sundance Film Festival.
The Sundance Film Festival is held each January, and for 2008 will be held the 17th through the 27th of January. The festival was started in 1981 by Robert Redford, and it has grown into the largest international event for independent film artists of all types. You’ve got about a month to get your film submitted by the early deadline, although submissions do not totally close until September 28, 2007.
Now, if you enter, and then you get all nervous and lock your keys in your car, don’t panic. Here’s the number to locate a Salt Lake City Locksmith just in case. It’s 1-866-670-5852. See, now you are ready for anything!
Spiderman 3
Saturday, June 30th, 2007If you are thinking about seeing Spiderman 3, head over to Melissa’s blog and read her movie review. I could try to rehash what she said, but since she’s actually seen the movie, and I haven’t it, that would be cheating a little, wouldn’t it?
